The Center for Human Health Risk and partners at Hollings Marine Laboratory, including
the NOAA
Center of Excellence in Oceans and Human Health, conducts collaborative
research bringing together basic, applied and biomedical research expertise to provide
support and biotechnology applications to sustain and protect healthy coastal ecosystems
with an emphasis on linkages between environmental and human health. Data generated
to support research projects capture a variety of coastal environmental and marine
animal health information. These are invaluable data sets and reference information
about stressors, exposures and responses of coastal organisms and ecosystems. Data
consists of chemical, biological and physical measurements and is used to describe
ecosystems, forecast current and future ecological health, and evaluate management
strategies. Currently available data is accessible through the links below. Additional
or raw data may be obtained from the individual scientists conducting projects.
You can learn more about the projects from the research
project page.
- Marine Genomics Project
: This is a web-based interface for genomic data from marine organisms as well as
bioinformatic data analysis tools. Species and project data are contributed by users
from locations around the world.
- CoralMicrobes.org: This
is an online repository for 16S sequence data of culture-dependent and culture-independent
bacterial communities associated with corals worldwide. This site will also include
web-sharing services with the Ribosomal Database Project, therefore allowing for
data analysis within the site. Data will be contributed by users from locations
around the world. In addition, the site will have a blog, titled 'Never Waste a
Good Crisis' that will feature site updates, information about participants, and
global news about corals and their associated microbiota.
