Environmental Specimen Bank
HML houses the Marine Environmental Specimen Bank (ESB), consisting of cryogenic storage and associated clean room facilities for the long-term archival of well documented and preserved marine environmental specimens for retrospective research. Among its components is the National Marine Mammal Tissue Bank, established by Federal legislation amending the Marine Mammal Protection Act. The Marine ESB is operated by NIST.
